Alan loved to see football played under floodlights and I managed to get tickets for us to the crunch match when Sunderland played Everton - Sunderland would stay in the Premier League if they won. We were treated to a 3-0 win that meant Sunderland stayed up and relegated Newcastle United. I always thought this would be his football reporter headshot if he was reporting on the match for Final Score on BBC1.
